Behind the Lens - Laura Lewis
Our last feature for Season One of Behind the Lens is Laura Lewis. Let's have a look at another wonderful Nordic Lens community member and discover the stories behind her favorite photos.
Welcome to another issue of Behind the Lens, a series that shines the spotlight on the talented artists of our Nordic Lens community. This series delves into the work and perspectives of one member at a time, offering a unique glimpse into the diversity of our community.
In contrast to traditional interview formats, Behind the Lens empowers artists to showcase their creativity and share the stories behind their favorite photographs.
After all, who better to narrate the tale than the person behind the lens?
*NOTE: This issue of Behind the Lens marks the end of Season One! The series will continue sometime in June again, no date has been set yet, but I will be reaching out to a few of the wonderful community members here so we can fill up another Season quickly!
What is Behind the Lens?
At the heart of Behind the Lens is a simple concept: Community members share their favorite photos and provide insights into why these images hold special meaning.
This opportunity allows us to explore the depth and richness of our community through the lens of its creators.
Those featured in the series have the freedom to choose works that resonate deeply, whether they're recent creations, all-time favorites, personal or professional, or a combination of all four. This flexibility ensures a genuine representation of each artist's journey and evolution within the community and beyond.
There are limitations to it, however—they must do it in 5 photos or less. This adds a personal, authentic, and intriguing touch. It compels them to choose and encourages them to be as mindful as possible about their favorite photos.
Behind the Lens is not your average interview series as it is consciously kept as personal as possible to preserve authenticity, the focus is solely on the photographers and their photos.
This fosters a more personal connection between the community and its members, allowing us to appreciate the richness of talent within Nordic Lens.
By offering a platform for members to share their favorite photos and personal insights behind them, Behind the Lens aims to inspire, connect, and deepen appreciation for the community's exceptional pool of talent.
Unlike the bi-weekly photo challenges that highlight the best submissions, Behind the Lens celebrates the authenticity of individual expression.
Our feature for this week is Laura Lewis, whose work, in her own words, embodies spontaneity and the natural world.
Both of which I am a fan of, which makes Laura the perfect person to end Season One of Behind the Lens with.
So let's welcome Laura and have her introduce us to her favorite photos.
I am a woman filled with an undying devotion to my own becoming and the mother of three beautifully wild children. During this fleeting season of my life I am searching for the muse in every stolen moment.
For as long as I can remember writing has been the way I has woven my own meaning into the world, it is through this work that my formerly starved soul has grown satiated once again.
It is my fondest wish that my words might offer some sustenance to those women who are still hungry and howling for more.

Laura’s Favorite Photos
All of my favourite photos are a combination of two things: the natural world and spontaneity.
Since I don’t own a camera and I very rarely remember to reach for my phone when I’m out and about I tend to capture only the most enrapturing moments.
This one was taken just before sunset, we were sat in the car waiting to board the ferry and the pink of the clouds was growing more intense with every passing moment.
I hopped out of the car at the last possible second, knowing that it was a sight I wanted to remember forever.
This rose was a late bloom, but an incredibly beautiful one.
We spotted it in a garden of a little cottage right at the edge of the most beautiful Cornish beach back at the beginning of October.
Summer was already long gone but when I inhaled its scent it was revived for a fleeting moment. I love the detail of this photo, the way you can see every crease of every petal and how they are almost skin like when you look closely.
This is the aforementioned beach!
There’s something so spellbinding about the way an ocean scape can change so suddenly, how photos taken seconds apart can be entirely different.
The reflection of the landscape, the sky and the wisps of cloud create a dreamlike aesthetic, almost as though you could fall through the water into another world.
I think fungi are some of the most photogenic organisms in nature.
The variation between species is simply astounding, and there’s something so fascinating about the urgency and force with which they erupt into sight. I found this Amethyst deceiver in a fungi hot spot in the middle of the forest.
I chose this one to share because their colour is almost impossible to miss and once you spot one your eyes inevitably lead you to another.
Thank You Laura!
Laura’s approach is natural and full of beauty. Nature is the best artist and everything it creates, it creates effortless. Laura captures this beautifully and poetically.
I’m in awe of her photos, they are truly stunning!
Behind the Lens aims to showcase the authenticity of Nordic Lens members, whether it's through unfiltered photos, professionally edited works, or nostalgic memories and Laura nails every single bit of it and more.
I want to provide a platform for community members to express themselves honestly, personally, or professionally, revealing what makes them tick.
I am incredibly grateful to Laura for accepting my invitation and for finishing Season One of this series off so inspirationally.
Her work is truly inspirational and beautiful, and I can't wait to explore the creativity of more Nordic Lens members through Behind the Lens.

Thank you so much for the invitation Patrik! I was so excited to see this pop up the other idea after a bit of impromptu time spent offline, it’s been a very inspiring series and I’m honoured to be the one to finish it off ✨
So beautiful! Love all the nature 💚
