Weekly Challenge #1 - Photo of the Week
I'm starting a weekly challenge series for anyone wanting to participate. No subscription needed, but appreciated for future challenges.
At first I planned to create a game that would have been played throughout a number of weeks, but I’ve realized that the amount of work needed for it would eat up too much of my time.
Don’t worry, it’s being worked on in the background, I just wanted to get something out and this is something I thought could be a lot of fun for everyone to participate in.
So here’s the new plan while I’m working on the original plan.
I’m starting a weekly challenge for the community to partake in. The first weeks challenge is to take a photo, but more on this below.
What to Expect
Each week will consist of a different challenge that I randomly draw. What the challenge then entails will be drawn in the same way to get a focused theme.
The themes and the challenges will differ from week to week, as mentioned, but will eventually circle back around. However, a theme can not be repeated for said challenge. So if you want to participate and do a mini challenge each week I suggest you subscribe so you don’t miss a challenge.
Let’s have some fun!
The Challenge
Theme: Splash of Color
About: Find or create a scene where a single burst of color stands out against a more muted background. It could be a colorful umbrella on a rainy day, a beautiful flower in a sea of green, or any other scenario where color takes the focus.
The object can be anything, even you if you fancy, but the object in question must be the focus. I’d love to see a fully focused shot with no blurry or out of focus backgrounds, but feel free to get as creative as you’d like with it.
The more creative, the better, so don’t be afraid to experiment.
Keep in mind, it’s about having fun and to explore your creative side. Your gear doesn’t matter as much as your creativity, so play around with various cameras or gears as much as you’d like. Put your own unique spin on the theme, it’s to inspire you to have fun and be creative.
If you want some inspiration or get an idea of what the theme means, see the example photos below. Note, these are just examples that I’ve taken myself and does not necessarily reflect the challenge perfectly. They are merely to give you an idea.
Examples:
The Rules
Subscription: No subscription needed to participate, but appreciated and useful for future challenges.
Submission Deadline: Submissions for the week's challenge must be posted by August 15, 2023.
How to Participate:
Capture a photo that creatively represents the theme of the week.
Post the photo on Notes by restacking this post (I’ll personally go through all submissions & bookmark them).
In your Note, tag
and include a brief description of the photo and why you chose it. I’m a curious person and would love to know!
Original Content: Only original photos taken by you are eligible for the challenge. Any stock photos, free or paid, are automatically disqualified. AI photos will not be permitted, an AI challenge may or may not be in the works so save them for that.
Watermark: If you want to protect your work, feel free to watermark your submission with a subtle watermark that doesn’t distract or take away focus from the object itself.
Engagement: Feel free to like and comment on fellow participants' entries to encourage a sense of community. I want this to be a fun challenge for the community to be a part of.
Winner Selection: I will personally review all the submissions and select a winning photo based on creativity, relevance to the theme, and quality. No Min/Max resolution, but I should be able to see what the photo is so I’d appreciate if it’s not 100x100px. 😂
Winner Announcement: The winner of the "Photo of the Week" challenge will be announced in next week's challenge. The winning photo will also be featured in the newsletter.
Prize: The winner will receive a shoutout and repost of their photo in next weeks challenge email, a recommendation if you have a Substack of your own, and a fun handwritten font with full commercial license, see previews of the font below this section.
Permission: By taking part in the challenge, you grant me permission to feature your submitted photo in my newsletter, giving you full credit with links and a recommendation if you have a Substack of your own.
Have Fun: The goal of this challenge is to have fun, showcase your creativity, and connect with other like-minded individuals in our community!
The Font You Can Win
Note, the price will be the price for three weeks and then get exchanged for either another font or something else. This is to increase your chances of winning the price if you want it. Once three weeks have passed, the price will not be coming back for these challenges.
Don’t miss out on these challenges, subscribe today to never miss a challenge.
