Photo Challenge - In the Moment
I know a lot of you already have photos ready for this challenge, but I'd still like to invite you to a fun creativity challenge and snap a new photo instead as it's meant to invite creativity.
Last week’s challenge went extraordinarily well, way better than expected, and the photos speak for themselves. So many stunning photos, far more than I expected to see, but I love it. Thank you everyone who participated, you’re all amazing!
For this week’s challenge we’re in the moment. It can be any moment, but it must show an action or an event. It can be current, past or right now, it’s all up to you. But it must show a moment and you must provide a description of what is happening in the moment.
But remember, it’s about having fun so don’t get too serious or emotional, we want it to be fun and exciting.
As always, before we get to the challenge, make sure to check out the winner of the last challenge and make sure to give everyone you like a subscribe and a follow!
In this week’s issue of Behind the Lens we’re taking a look at Laura Durban’s favorite photos. Laura is a fantastic photographer, not just from an artistic standpoint, but because she shoots on analogue and doesn’t digitally edit anything.
I’m positive you’ll love her work, Laura is very talented and I can’t wait to see what else she’ll have for us down the road.
Here’s How the Challenge Works:
Your photo must focus on “In the Moment (as explained below)” - See examples below.
Entries not adhering to this theme will not be considered.
Originality and creativity are highly encouraged.
Post the photo on Notes by restacking this post (I’ll personally go through all submissions & bookmark them).
Please note: You can submit as many photos as you’d like, as long as they fit inside a single Restack of this post. Kindly do NOT Restack nine times for nine different photos, Restack only once for all photos you wish to submit. Any other Restacks will not be considered.
In your Note, tag @Patrik L so I can see it. If you’re unable to tag me or don’t know how, please leave a comment on this post saying you have restacked this post with your photo and I’ll have a look.
Please note that all submissions must be in a single restack. Multiple restacks with multiple submissions will not be accepted.
The photo should preferably be a new photo that you take for this challenge, it’s to invite creativity after all, but if you lack the time or resources to do so–an already available photo in your library will do.
Further information can be found in the guidelines below, these guidelines must be followed for the photo to be eligible.
For brownie points, tag friends or people you’d love to see participate in this challenge. The more the merrier!
If you’re new or unsure how to post a photo or tag me, please see the included GIF right below this message (note it may take a little while for it to load properly).
The themes and the challenges will differ, but may eventually circle back around if applicable. However, a theme can not be repeated for said challenge. So if you want to participate and do a mini photo challenge every other week I suggest you subscribe so you don’t miss a challenge.
Let’s have some fun!
Please pay attention to the guidelines below, these must be followed for the photo to be eligible.
The Challenge - In the Moment
Theme: In the Moment
About: In this challenge I want you to capture life as it unfolds with this week’s "In the Moment" photo challenge! Embrace spontaneity, embrace authenticity, and invite yourself in the beauty of fleeting moments.
*Note: This is not a candid moments challenge, but it is similar as it must describe an event and a description for this challenge is needed as we need to know what is happening. The description can be long or short, but it must explain what is happening in the shot, otherwise it will not be considered for this challenge.*
Capture the joyous laughter of children playing or a dog running against the setting sun on the horizon, every instant is a story waiting to be told through your lens.
Whether you're documenting an exciting sports even or seizing the magic of everyday occurrences like your son/daughter doing something they shouldn’t be doing, this challenge urges you to enter into the art of being present and attentive to the world around you.
So, grab your camera, open your heart to the world, and let each click freeze a moment in time.
*I know a lot of you already have photos ready for this challenge, but I'd still like to invite you to a fun creativity challenge and snap a new photo instead as it's meant to invite creativity. It doesn’t need to be professional or perfect, it’s about being creative, so let’s be extra creative and have some fun this week by seeing things we otherwise might miss.*
Be as creative as you can, it’s about having fun!
The object can be anything, but the focus must be on the theme In the Moment as it is explained above.
This challenge is designed to encourage not only technical skill but also artistic expression in presenting something that happens In the Moment.
Submissions will be judged based on creativity, composition, detail and how well you capture the object, place, person, animal or anything else it may be.
Only your imagination can limit you.
If you want some inspiration or get an idea of what the theme means, see the examples below. Note, these are just examples that I’ve taken from Unsplash or other sources and does not necessarily reflect the challenge perfectly. It’s merely to give you an idea.

I love these challenges. Thank you for providing a bit of fun and connection here on Substack. I've just returned yesterday from a two week visit to Florida. We spent a lot of time "in the moment" and have so many wonderful photos. I posted my moments in the notes here: https://substack.com/@maryannrollano/note/c-52599315
OK I was trying to restack , and it restacked without a note or my photo. I’ve been on Substack a while, but no one has ever convinced me to participate in notes until now. But this looks fun with photo challenges! It also won’t let me delete the one I accidentally restacked without a note. So I’m gonna do it again, and I hope that doesn’t violate the rules, and hopefully this time I’ll get it right.
