Winner of Photo Challenge Week 8 - Passion Projects
Much lower amount of submissions this week, which is what I expected, but a lot of fun and interesting passion projects were submitted so it all balanced out nicely!
This week was a very fun and interesting week of submissions. Much lower submissions, which I honestly did expect for this challenge, but so many fun and lovely passion projects submitted at the same time.
A lot of submissions from some of you surprised me as I got something I totally didn’t expect, which I absolutely approve of and welcome!
Now, you may think lower submissions meant I had an easier time choosing, well I didn’t. It’s never easy to choose a winner, especially not with so many amazing submissions.
But I wouldn’t change it for anything! Going through all your beautiful submissions each week brings joy into my life, so thank you for being a part of these challenges!
*IMPORTANT NOTE: This post is obviously too long for emails according to Substack, so if you want to see the post in its entirety I suggest you read it on either the Substack App or website. I highly recommend using your desktop to view it, all these submissions deserve it!
Next challenge is April 24.
*IMPORTANT NOTE: The April 24 challenge will mark a break in the challenges until the beginning of June, no date decided yet, but I will announce it as soon as I know and as soon as I’ve figured everything out.
The Winner -
Not much can beat a gorgeous view, especially not when the view is rolling hills and mountains, there’s something so serene about it.
Holly submitted three photos and all three are absolutely stunning. Choosing between them were not easy, so I highly suggest you go check all of them out, leave a comment, like the Note and toss her a subscription or a follow!
Holly runs these hills and mountains to train for an ultra marathon, which is incredible in itself and makes me feel lazy, which in comparison I kind of am but that’s beside the point. This time, she’s focusing on a Top 10 placement, which I consider a win in itself, but I would not be surprised if she finishes Top 3.
So make sure to wish her luck!
*Reason Holly’s note and restack look weird, is because I managed to accidentally delete the Note she restacked. Yes, it is allowed to restack a Note from me as long as the post to the challenge is linked in my Note. But it’s always best to restack the post itself as Notes may be deleted from time to time, as evident above.*
Make sure to check out Holly’s Substack, Telling Their Tales. You won’t regret it if you’re a fan of Anglo-Saxon England and stories of medieval men and women who should be noteworthy but aren’t.
Honorable Mentions
Choosing the winner and runner-ups for this challenge was easily one of the hardest choices I’ve had to make for these challenges. There are so many incredible and worthy winners this week!
These honorable mentions are all winners, along with every single photo this week, but these ones had something special about them that I’m positive you’ll love as well.
The runner-ups for this challenge are;
, , , and .Georgia won the Halloween challenge last year with a photo she took in a 5-10 minute session, this time, she did it in a 20 minute window. As I said, she is very talented!
If you’re on Instagram you should toss Georgia a follow, her photos are pure art and she most certainly deserve your follow!
Don’t forget to subscribe to Georgia and her newsletter while you’re here. You may want to check out her Romanticising Home Life series and her Gallery series for gorgeous photos and quick reads about home life, you honestly won’t regret it!
Even more special is that she shot this on film!
Linnhe is a very talented photographer, as evident from her submission this week, but there’s even more stunning photos on her Instagram. So make sure to toss her a follow there too!
Do not forget to subscribe to Linnhe’s Substack - Sails on the Horizon, while you’re at it. Especially if you’re into film photography, creative writing and sailing amongst other things. I’m positive you’ll find a reason to subscribe to her!
These days I freehand everything I do, but drawing a wireframe or drawing from a reference does help a lot and is something almost all of us artists do.
Cameron is a frequent participator in these challenges and I love his work! He’s a talented photographer and clearly a creative person.
If you want to see more of his work, make sure to check out his Instagram while you’re at it.
Do not forget to subscribe to Cameron and his Substack - otherdaddies, while you’re at it. You’ll love his publication if you’re into audiovisuals (that apparently no one asked for), parenting, being a partner or anything else that Cameron calls other-wise.
I think we all love music, there’s so many different genres and instruments to enjoy, so seeing a clarinet being submitted is something that makes me happy.
Emily is an illustrator, accountant and now photographer to boot! I highly recommend you visit her website where you’ll find a lot of her beautiful illustrations.
Do not forget to subscribe to Emily and her Substack - While I Was Drawing, you really won’t regret it if you’re into art and illustrations.
Feathers are gorgeous as they are and in turn, so are birds. So seeing a beautiful feather submitted in all it’s lone glory, makes me smile.
Karen is evidently a talented nature photographer, which her note showcase beautifully, but she’s also a visual poet, artist, writer and system analyst. Clearly a multifaceted woman.
If you want more beautiful nature photos, make sure to subscribe to Karen’s Substack, Life in the Real World. You won’t be disappointed if you love nature.
As always, I feature up to five runner-ups plus a winner. But, as there’s so many absolutely fantastic photos, I want to give a quick shout-out to as many as I possibly can.
Each week, I select my absolute favorite submissions for feature, accompanied by a well-deserved shout-out. For everyone else, a link to their submission will be provided. This way, I can showcase the best while ensuring all contributors receive the recognition they deserve.
I’ll showcase my Top 12 for this challenge! These 12 were by no means easy to pick, but they absolutely deserve the recognition!
I hope to see all of you and many more in future challenges!
Photos show up in this order:
Again this is my top 12, but as Substack only allow up to 9 in a single gallery, I decided to split them into two galleries of six photos for easier browsing.
Photos show up in this order:
Here are all the other submissions I received this week, in no particular order, so make sure to check them out, leave a like and a comment, and who knows, maybe you’ll find someone to follow or subscribe to while you’re at it!
I know there’s a lot to go through, but every single person who submitted and entered deserves at least a like and comment on their submission, and if you like their content, give them a subscription or a follow!
PS: If I have somehow missed someone, I do apologize, but going through all these wonderful submissions took hours so if I did somehow miss your submission (though I believe I got everyone). Please let me know so I can rectify that ASAP!
Thank you everyone who’s subscribed, followed, participated or just engaged in any way, you’re all awesome!
